One Minute of Thanks

Mister Rogers was a master of cultivating trust with people. As the creator, producer, and host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from 1968 to 2001, he provided a “meaningful expression of care” for generations of young children.

Toward the end of his life, during commencement speeches and acceptance speeches, Fred Rogers acknowledged he would not be the person he was without the love, support and care of some very special people.

He added that no one gets to be “a competent human being without a lot of different investments from others.” Rogers would often ask his audiences to take one minute to silently think of the people who had loved them into being.

I encourage you to take that minute right now. They may be close, they may be far away, some may even be in heaven.

For Reflection: Who has trusted you, believed in you, loved you into the person you are today?
